What year Dana 44 axles will work in a 1994 YJ Wrangler?

They wrote an article Square-J. My question is they stated that you can use a jeep Comanche or Jeep Cherokee Dana 44 axle. I have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler Sahara YJ. My question is what year Cherokee axle will work in this YJ. I have located a Dana 44 axle out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.73 gears. They stated it was out of a 1993 through 1998 Jeep Grand Cheorokee. Just trying to find out if this will work before buying this item. Just don't know what years will work. Any help will be appreciated Thank you.

You probably don't want that axle as it is not a true Dana 44. It is whats known as a Dana 44A. It has a different ring and pinion design and the center section is made of cast aluminum rather than cast iron. You want to look for a Dana 44 out of a "86-'90 Jeep Cherokee (not Grand) XJ or any year model Jeep Comanche. A Dana 44 is gonna be a rare find in either the XJ or a Comanche, but the are out there.
