Hi guys,
 I'm new to the forum and have a question, that might be easier than my mind is making it out to be. I have a 1981 Scrambler with a 1.5" shackle lift and 31" tires. I do not believe the leaf springs have been changed. I spent the last 3 years doing an engine and tranny swap to a Chevy SB 305 with TBI and a SM465. I have a swing out tire carrier rear bumber that holds two Jerry cans and the Hi-Lift. On the front I have a Warn 8000 winch. Over the years and with the weight the leaf are almost flat. I want to install new leafs and shocks, but keep the ride height the same as it was before. I had plenty of room in the wheel wells and no rubbing while turning. I was thinking 2.5" lift would be correct, but with the extra weight, I am not sure. I was also thiking the "soft ride" lift kits, but don't know anyone who has run with them. I am currently stationed in Africa, so I can not go out and measure right now. I want to just restore the height, not make it higher. I unfortunitly have to do it more cheaply than just install a 4" and get longer brake lines and new tires. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm. I know Old Man Emu makes relatively low lift kits with differing spring rates (for light or heavy vehicles). They make a great product, but are not inexpensive.

You could also delve into building "Bastard leaf packs" or build replacement springs using a combination of junkyard sourced parts, stock springs, and parts from other rigs like S-10s, Rangers, Etc. You'd have to research what parts to put where, but this can be a very affordable  option to get the height and durability you want from used parts.
