I'm looking to swap a 14 bolt into the rear of my 76 cherokee chief. Currently I am running an offset D44 in the rear, This cherokee has the amc360/t18/d20. Was the original rearend offset? Just wondering if my rear driveshaft is going to work with the centered rear diff? also what u-joint would be in the driveshaft on the 44?.
Another question. the 14b rear came out of a 80 chevy 3/4 ton and came with a matching d44 front but its SOA so i'm going to regear the current front 44 to match the 14b will the 8 lug outers fit on the original 44 thats under my jeep now?
any info will help thanks

The main thing i'm, worried about with this swap is gas tank interference, anyone done this before?

thats a good question.. i don't have an answer... if it will clear or not..
but you might want to contemplate.. the tire size difference also.. unless you can find the rare 15 inch 8 bolt rims...
just curious.. how about the spring spacing??? i am taking its fairly close..
you will also want to check the lash in the 14B.. as i was out in sun valley one day.. somebody threw a 14B ring and pinion over the side fence at the truck wrecking yard.. almost hit me with it.. i picked it up.. tossed it in my car and drove away... i wonder how long they looked for it..
i got back on my side of the hill.. stopped by a friends house.. the guy next door was out under his pu.. with broken ring and pinion.. i ask him what the tooth count was... he was amazed that i had that exact ring and pinion in my car.. sometimes.. good things do fall from the sky..
somebody will know about the offset drive shaft centerline issues...

thanks, I'm planning on running the full 14b kit from ruff stuff with new perches, disc brake brackets, diff cover and pinion guard, I also have a set of pro come extreme mt's on 17 inch 8 lug wheels that are going under the chief. I just want to have all the parts laying on the shop floor before I start
