so want big brakes and crossover steering but dont want to hack up a good axle to do it so what problems would i have swapping axle for axle i dont care about gears i can swap them over i think (not worried bout resetting if i can)
any info would be appreciated

I don't think its worth your time unless the axle were free and your Dana 30 is FUBAR. Sure the brakes are bigger, the drag link is higher, but the tierod is not really any higher (It may be lower). The CV shafts are probably weaker than your u-jointed axle.
