I get a loud clunking sound from the center of the wagon when I shift into reverse, and intermittently whilst driving in "drive". The clunk is louder when shifting into reverse. It is not all-time 4wd. AMC 360 5.9L, 3-Speed Auto.
I have a general mechanical knowledge and welcome any and all thoughts and routes of correction.

1st off try the obvious U-Joints on the drive shaft(s). I've also experienced transmission mounts that have loosened and would shift when load was applied.

Sorry for the multiple postings, kept getting error messages off the server, so I figured it hadn't posted.
