I got a 1970 wagoneer about a year ago, and have been driving it off and on for about three months now, chasing out the gremlins. My newest problem is death wobble at +45mph. I have checked all the usual suspects, except the king pin, on the dana 27. What shoud I be looking for, as to worn or broken parts?

Jack the tire off the ground and check for play. Here's a video of how to do it (using my '68 J2000).

Sorry 'bout the stupid commercial at the beginning. J2000 Kingpin

If there's play, chances are the kingpin bearings are worn or damaged. If the bearings are only worn, you can probably pull shims out to increase the bearing preload. If they're damaged, buy new kingpin bearings and races and insert them.

You'll need a fish scale to get the right bearing preload. Take off the tie rod ends and use the fish scale to see how much lbs of force it takes to turn the knuckle. I think spec calls for something like 14lbs.
