My '98 Grand Cherokee has had a clunking sound for about the past month when I go over bumps or man hole covers. It sounds like it is coming from the right front, but my mechanic says everything is tight. It has a loose exhaust and new u-joints at the front wheels. I am pretty much taking my mechanic at his word, but the noise has me worried. I live in Illinois, so it is kind of tough to look at anything in my driveway in February. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Gotta be the control arm bushings or the track bar. Check 'em all very carefully. There may be loose hardware or worn bushings. Also check the shock bushings and hardware.

I took it to another mechanic. He said that the bushing for the front stabilizer bar is bad and that the shocks should be replaced.
