Timing impact on Oil Pressure???

I installed a DUI HEI awhile back it works great, however, it would appear that I have a substantial range with my timing, from 5 to 13 degrees BTDC.

Will the proper or improper timing (increasing or decreasing) have an impact on my oil pressure?

Since installing the HEI the best Oil pressure with engine hot 215degrees is 27 psi @ 2000 RPM, but it really takes a dive at idle 6 psi @ 850 rpm.

with engine cooler @190 degrees 57psi @ 1800 rpm and idling @ 30psi

So one thing I'm trying to do is get the engine to run cooler, maybe a new Rad or vent the hood etc

No, timing will not affect your oil pressure unless you take into account the RPM change when it is advanced. But you should be correcting that at the carb.

215-seems a little hot though. See if you can get it to run at 180-190.

Figure on at least 10-psi of oil pressure for every 1,000 rpm. That's a pretty good rule of thumb.

Man, if I could get it to run at 180-190 that would solve a lot of problems.

I took out the heater awhile back which shortened the return of hot coolant / hose, would this be causing the additional heat?

Is there a more effective coolant than the 50/50 antifreeze? Hell, maybe a new rad is needed.

Look down through the radiator fill hole and see if the cores that are visible are at all clogged. You may have to drain a little fluid to get a better look. How old is the radiator? There is no reason you can't get it to run that cool.

Does it still have the stock mechanical fan (no flex fans), good fan clutch, factory shroud, 180-degree thermostat?

I'll take a look, but in the mean time it has a good aftermarket clutch fan, no  shroud & I believe the thermostat is a 195 degree

The rad is about 15 yrs old, but with less than 20K miles on it, this Jeep sat idle for about 10 yrs, before it was fixed up.

Recommend any rad replacements, budget conscience.

If it needs one HERE.

Flush it out well, pop in a 180 thermostat, and get a shroud on there.
