i have an issue with alloy rims. the lug's have lossened to to point of a possible detach 4 times. the local shop blames the rims, and reccomends steel rims. has anyone experienced this? is there an easy fix? don't have the $$ to buy new rims. Pete

Just as a guess, it sounds like maybe you don't have the correct lug nuts. There are several types for non-steel rims.

You didn't say if the are aftermarket or factory. If it's the factory wheel and you are running oversized tires, they may not be able to handle the extra weight of the tire, and should be checked once or month or so. As the other posting you got here said. Check you lugs, the taper my be wrong. Your wheels may need a sharper taper than the lugs from the steel wheels. If they are aftermarket wheels. The hub on a lot of these is thicker, and the studs could be to sort. You have to engage all the threds on the lugnut. If your not, they will back off in time. No matter what they do have to be checked more do to the heating and cooling from the brakes.

Put a dab of Loc-Tite on the studs and torque them to 90 ft. lbs. Or try different lug nuts.
