My kid and his buddies want to remove the sway bars from their trucks. Being a street guy it sounds like a VERY BAD IDEA. Could you guys enlighten me. I understand that it improves travel off road but it seems to me that an Xj with 4" lift with no sway bars at highway speeds would be scary/deadly. Thx

It will give them more flex off road, but a tremendious amount of body roll on road. expecially with a lift. why not tell him to leave it on untill they get off road than it is just two 5/8 bolts to disconect it.

That is my stance exactly, I feel like if one were to jerk the wheel at 70+ things would become extremely unstable instantaneously. He says disconnect links are more than he can afford.

I agree at 70+ or even 30+ a sudden jerk of the wheel or even a quick lane change would almost certainly cause a roll. I have an 87 xj with 4 link frount and rear, and no sway bar, but it is a trailered rig. If he can't aford the quick disconnect, he could just un bolt the links for free, than bolt em back up for the treck home. Im considering making my xj street legal and installing sway bars frount and rear.

The front will dive when stepping on the breakes hard wile moving forward. When he hits ruts in the road, blacktop, the rig will pull him sideways. Without sway bars his XJ will be a hand full. Let me know where you live I will make sure that I don't come there. I want to live. If he removes the sway bars and drives on the street you need to tell him to be alone and that you can't afford his funeral so he better save up now.
Get him the disconnects for the front for Christmas and leave the bach hooked up.

keep the front but alot of people throw out their rear one and say the difference they feel is better flex, even on the road they can barely tell its gone, leaf springs dont really like to roll like coils do around corners
