i have a 03 TJ all stock.
it has the 42rle auto. i want to put a 1" body lift but a concerned that the shifter may have issues, either clearance or need spacers?
this is my first body lift on an automatic and want to be sure i get it right since it is my daily driver.
i am going with the daystar 1" lift which should allow me to clear the 31X10.50 tires.
i have factory 3.73 gears which i think i will need to go to 4.10 but that is later ![]()
Does anyone know if i will have shifter issues with only a 1" lift? i also heard that the 4WD shifter may have to be mounted differently.
my last question is, how do i know which gear to purchase for the transmission to recalibrate the speedometer?

i've run 31's on my '97 since the original 30's wore out. i've never had an issue. (280 k's) i think there's only 2 issues: 1. you'll need to adjust the steering stops 2. if you disconnect the front sway bar, the tires will hit the fender on full stuff. depending how you use it, you may not need the lift at all. pete

I wore out my 31s and put the stock 30s back on. all I did was put some washer behind the steering stops. I've got 3.73, and its fine. dont bother with 4.10; unless you've got the 4banger, then you might want to consider a little more gear. If you go with 4.10, you could probably get the rubicon plastic gear, unless they have special speedo gears for the special x-fer case

The 1" body lift will work with some minor rubbing with 31" tires. why not do a 2"coil spacer lift and get the skid plate up 2 more inches? They are not that hard to install.
Speedometer Services in Portland Oregon can set you up with the right speedo gear. Go to DexOnline and get there number.

thank you all for the information ![]()
i think i will go to the 31X10.50 tires and if they rub I will go with either the body lift or 2" coil spacers. i will research which is best and easiest (I'm lazy that way ) when/if i need it . Since it is mostly on-road i am going to try the wheel stop washer thing also.
once i get the tires installed i will upload a picture ![]()
have a great weekend

Get the spacer lift it will look and perform 100% better then a crappy Bodylift.

well,
is it best to use the poly spacer type or the aluminum type?
do you have a website reference i could go to?
lastly, does the coil lift make for a more harsh ride?
sorry for all the questions, i like to research before i do stuff ![]()
thanks to everyone for the info so far ![]()

Fabteck has a aluminum, adjustable coil spacer lift that I used. The ride is close to factory because you are not changing the springs. Daystay has a polly spacer lift and I assume that the ride is close to factory also. I like the adjustable one because I could set the front higher for when I put the winch on it.

ride is changed alot when doing 2 inch spacer lifts. your not changing springs, but you are changing geometry which is critical to ride. the geometry of your tracbar(s) are changed, the pitman arm, the swaybars, control arms, your caster, and i think camber is also changed. also your steering will be changed so it will need to be aligned. the spacers wont do much to all of this but all these little pieces are working against you.

I have an '06 Wrangler with the 4.0 and 6 speed. I installed the 2 inch spacer and a 2 inch body lift. With the sway bar disconnected, I can stuff 33x12.5x15 thornbirds under the 4 inch fender flares with almost no rub. It barely touches the flange at full flex, however, I do have to keep the tires pointed staight. To anyone with the NSG370 6 speed: The body lift I had to buy at the time was for the five speed. As a result, I had to unbolt the gear shift, heat it with my torch and bend it back so I could use 1st 3rd and 5th. It took 3 tries, some black spray paint, and it looks and works perfect. Almost forgot, I did have to cut the lower boot at the back...no fix for that yet.

Also, when I installed the 2in spring spacers, I developed death wobble at 40-45 mph. However, it only did it with 33in tires, not the 27in factory meats. My cure; I installed adjustable cam bolts to get the caster back into specs. The deathwobble almost went away, and when I installed a winch, it went completely away. The extra weight on the front did something.

i was also kind of wondering something: if i do a 1 inch body lift on my 05 jeep rubicon with a 6 speed manual. what will have to be cut or moddified so that i can shift into 2 3 and 6 gears?

I did the 2in body lift without using the factory rubber bushings. In my case, the gear shift on my 6 speed would contact the dash when going to 1st 3rd and 5th. When going to 2nd, 4th, and 6th, the "fat" part where the gear shift bolts into the trans would contact the plastic that the lower boot is molded to. With a 1 inch body lift, I don't know if you'll have either of these problems. Now my question; was I suppossed to use the factory bushings with my 2 inch spacers, or not. My body lift instructions didn't specify.
