Personally, if ya can afford it, then get a new drive shaft, you can never be too sure about those factory shafts and joints. I know Tom Woods makes some pretty sweet shafts for what seems a decent price. Ive ordered from them before for my old truck i had and it was easy to do. Take one mesurement, and tell them what kinda shaft you want. You can also look at your shaft now and see how much it has come out. compaired to stock also, and then lift the body up a inch or two and see how much more they come out and determine if ya need a new one that way or not. But if it was me, and i could afford it, i would go with a new shaft.

I am thinking about going with a 1" droped tcase,at least for now. I can always change shafts as I get more money. If I do add another inch of lift I'll also be needing new wheels and tires so money will be tight for sure!! I had my jeep out this weekend in the mud, It was fun.

Yea thats a option for now, and it will work. I looked at my shaft this weekend and mine moved out about a 1/4 inch or so. I cant wait till i take mine out again here soon. But i need to get my exhust finished up before i take it out. Im removed my 2yr old magna flow and put on a Cherry Bomb from Shucks, and now i need a new tail pipe or at least a turn down end cap...But yea, the ZJ's are great in the mud. Mine always amazes me at how much it will do. I seem to be able to go just as well as the others i see out there (refering to those wranglers). Could be partly cuz im not affraid to wheel it either. Glad your happy with what you have. If you want to send me some pics of your ZJ you can send them to Cookchase4@comcast.net  Always glad to hear about others gettin the ZJs muddy. Sucks now for me as all good wheeling spots are about an hour away and coverd in snow still.

Ya I'm not to sure wht I am going to do.....I may just add a 1" spacer and a 1" tcase drop. I think i'll just try putting on a set of 32's 11.5 when my 31's wear out then see if they rub at all. thx.

I can't see how you can go with 35's on a 4.5" lift. It just isn't possible unless they're like 9" wide or cutting the fenders. Again. I run 33-12.50 on a 15x8 with about 4" of back spacing. I bent the inner lips of my fender in so they wouldn't cut the tires. I also run 4" of bumpstop extension in front and 3" in rear on a 5.5" lift.

The link below is to a pic of my ZJ a couple of years ago flexing on top of two of my old 31-10.50's that I had just pulled off.

Looking at this pic, I can tell you that there is still about an inch of compression left before the bump stops hit. There is about an inch until the tires get to the fender. 35's on 4.5" of lift would require cutting the fenders.

Nice looking ZJ there. What was the lift and tire size again?

yea im sure i can fit some 35's on a 4.5" lift. It might not flex much and it might almost rub, but it could fit, and i never really said how useable it would be that way. I have my 31x10.5s on a spacer lift, stock bumpstops. Also, where did you get your snorkle at?? im looking for one for my ZJ.

33-12.50 ProComp X-Terrains on 15x8 wheels. The lift is a hodge-podge, but basically is UpCountry fr-rr coil swap with 3.5" front coils, all witha 2" budget boost to gain about 5.5".

The snorkel is a Safari Snorkel SS720 i think. I is for the Nissan Frontier truck. It is a mod unit for the ZJ leaving no real provisions for supporting the tube. You have to be creative. Also, the OEM airbox will not work. I used a modified F-150 airbox for a while, but it was too turbulent in the airtube... so I removed it. I have a few options I am contemplating.

Full write-up on my ZJ is on my web page. Lots of junk done to it. It still isn't finished, yet.... but are they ever? :-)

93grandzj... I am not discounting what you are getting at. Going with a lift that low on a ZJ with 35s is way too tight, though. The body seam inside the front wheel wells will scrap a set of tires when they rub. You'll loose ALL your lift with bumpstops to keep the tires from rubbing. 33's is tight enough with 4" of lift.

I think it's Cappa's M715 that has the deuce axles and the 49" IROKs. He has only a couple inches of compression... but unless I am mistaken he is also using the nitro-charged bumpstops. Alot of room to fab on a FSJ, but not nearly as much on a ZJ. I'm all for it, though. I liked the look of the LCG lift on the TJ. If you can get 35's to fit and be functional offroad, then I'd LOVE to see it... and that is a serious remark. There are thousands of people that mod their ride for lift and tires because they like the look... and that is cool... but for me, functionality is key. It has to work, because I use my ZJ offroad.

Stay Safe!

i also wanted to state that i have the ARB Bullbar. that give a tad more clearance than the OEM platic bumper which will have to be trimmed some with 33's. I only ran 31's with my OEM bumper, and only had to trim a tiny peice which was unnoticeable.... and the 31s were on OEM wheels. I was already at 5.5" with the 31s before I added the 33's.

here is the ZJ at 5.5" and 31's:

2.5" lift on 31's stuffed with 2" bumpstop extention:

very cool pics. this thread gives me alot to think about as I too wheel my ZJ from time to time. I am thinking that 32's will fit my rig at the current 3.5"lift(31's now). So I will be changeing out the 31's and 15x7s when they wear out for 32"s and 15x8s or 16x8s depending on how much money I have at the time.(wht backspaceing?)

I am also interested on PPLS thoughts on how high you can lift a zj before haveing to modify the driveshaft or drop the tcase, pitman arm   etc? Keep in mind my tcase is not full time.

Also what are the benifits to longer upper control arms? My guess is more drop in suspenion?

Also I am thinking (as I have said) about adding spacers but I am not sure if a 1" or 2" would be better. I would someday love to run 33"s but I may just stick to 31/32's to save on money.

What's really grat is that we ZJ owners now do have alot of options as far as what we can do with these great trucks.

I think some were i read on a ZJ Lift with like maybe 4" and up you might need longer drive shafts and what not. I know when i lift my ZJ some more ill be adding some longershafts and droping the pitman arm to try and bring it all back to stock like angles. Nothing worse then some bump steer...As for longer Arms, i think thats like one bonus, is more droop, and also its steadier once ya get above a certain point...I think, but im not sure. Also, would be kinda nice to know if say a TJ lift would fit on our ZJ's...and how much more would it lift us...Like if it says its a 2" lift, will it lift a ZJ 2" or more...Just some other things to think about...And i know you can fit 32's on your current lift.

Cool. as for tj stuff i know some will fit, but I'd say you'd get less lift because the zj weighs more.............I got a call from Rusty's offroad and my new parts are on the way !! yippy!!!!
