hey 85 cj-7 with dana 30 front -- has anybody done a heim joint conversion on their steering? if so what problems did you encounter?

what parts did you use and how?

last but not least how does it work? off road and on the street, would you recommend doing it?

well i did it! and it works great so far!

i used 1-1/4 schd. 80 stainless steel pipe and 3/4 hiem joints with brass bushings down to 5/8 and  2 nuts welded together at each hiem joint welded to inside of tube and drilled(5/16) through pipe into the nuts (2x) and welded again.

then i drilled out the steering arm and the pitman arm to 5/8 and used 5/8 grade 8 bolts nuts lc washers

at the steering arm i put the link to the top with a spacer and the link to the bottom of the pitman arm  which put it just about parallel with the tie rod

sat and sunday i played ruff with the truck and was really pleased with how it did! now i just need to do the tierod the same way!

i think that fat stainless link looks cool to! if anyone cares i'll try to post some pics of it

Get rid of the lock washers. They will crack and fall out after you use them for a while, especially on the rough stuff. I know from experiance. I changed to nylock nuts. There are also nuts with interfierance cut threds that can be used. Interfierance cut means that the nut thred are cut a little differant than the bolt and when taken off the bolt and nut have to be replaced.
