I own a 77 cj-7 with a t-150 trans. I am looking to swap in a nv3550. The current engine is a amc 304 v8. I can get the trans realitvely cheap. I am just concerned about adapters. I would like to keep the t -case. IT works fine and appears to have never been changed and would be the original

Don't think an NV3550 is up to handling V-8 power, you might want to consider something beefier. Check put Novak adapter's knowledge base for some good info.

The 3550 will handle the anemic 304 quite easily. Top hp, 150 maybe? My 4.0 is 220-230 and I run 36's in Hot Springs and mine is perfect.
The tranny is rated above 300 horses

torque destroys trannys, not horsepower.

The 3550 is just fine behind a V-8. The 3500 (an integral bellhousing version of the 3550) was used in Dodge Dakota trucks with 318 V-8s. Plenty strong regardless.
