I just picked up a 1990 Jeep Wrangler with a super solid body. It comes tomorrow the only problem is I suspect the motor is blown. If this is true I am going to do my first engine swap. My question is which year 4 cyl will be a direct swap. I have found a bunch of 1995 4cyl but I have heard they are not a direct swap.
Also any experience swapping one of these engines would be great. Problems, things that you would had done different. Stuff I should avoid..etc..
Thanks

All of the information that I can find states that engine size stayed the same for the years, 1989 to 1995. The first two years of the 2.5 motor the hp was less. In 1989, Jeep increased the hp produced by the engine. So according to my info a '95 motor should fit in your '90 YJ.
Btw, I own a lifted '95 YJ with the 2.5 motor in it. It is a great little motor with plenty of torque for larger tires, if axles are properly geared. Only problem is watch the manual transmission as it is junk.
