For this project the chevy 350 is almost for sure your best bet.
The things you will need are:
350 motor (less work if you go with a 87 or older motor due to the fact it has practically no wiring to hook up)
Decide weather or not you want to stick with your old transmission witch will require an adapter or switch to a TH350, TH400 or 700r4 witch will bolt up directly to the motor.
For the transfercase you are going to want to either stick to the np231 witch will bolt up to your original transmision but requires an adapter for any of the Chevy transmissions or just swap in an advanced adapters transfer case which is arguably the best on the market and will require no adapters.
for the engine mounts and any of the other adapters you might need i would go with advanced adapters they cary the best bolt in adapters out there.
After you get all of that in there and decided you might have to lenthen/shorten your driveshafts to fit right.
In my case I put in a motor out of a 77 chevy scottsdale, a TH350 Transmission, Advanced adapters bolt in saddle mount kit, Advanced adapters TH350 to NP231 adaqpter and then i redid the driveshafts.
The only problems I have ever had is the fact that the motor is heavier so add-a-leafs in the front I would recomend......and in the rear I had a leaf spring bust on me because of axel wrap which in turn busted my driveshaft but this can easily be avoided by buying spring helpers that bolt on to the leaf springs in the rear to prevent axel wrap and are pretty cheap through summit.
Good luck and have fun. Hope to see you out on the trails!!!
