bedrat2: Hmmm... What would I like to see in JP? I would like to see a build up on the new Patriot. My Girlfriend got one and I made sure it was fully loaded with the Off-Roading Package (it's got the trail rated badge and everything). I would like to see, well, read how it handles off-road and what I can do to make it a better trail rig. I would also like to see rating on trail parks thought out the US and Canada. I'm from Michigan and in the area there is only two or three off-roading parks in the area and I would like to know which ones are worth driving to and which ones are just a dirt road on someone's property. I would also like to say that you guys are the best, so of the best tech and reviews out there for Jeeps. Thanks for asking the question.
Sorry man, the Patriot is a car. It's based on a car chassis, the Dodge Caliber. It also shares the same chassis with the Compass. They are all cars, Trail Rated badge or not. We did a road test on the Patriot. It's neat and fun to drive but I wouldn't plan on using it too roughly off-road. Think of it as a 4x4 car that can get you through light snow and ice on the road and such.

Me personally would also like to see more of the older jeeps getting newer advancements i.e like a how to modify an older CJ5 getting lifted, getting tube fenders, engine conversions and I mean the older motors V8-V6. we recently did a conversion from the basic four to a 231 buick v6 and this thing is costom. a lot of hard work put into it. And I know that your not reading anything that you have not heard before , but always talking about the YJ,TJ,Rubydong gets a little boring, NO OFFENSE GUYS. But if you think about it, you always find yourselves glued to reading those articals. Like my Dad would say "reminds me of when I was a KID." And really that is the only reason why anybody reads this stuff is because were all GREAT BIG KIDS.

I would like to see projects for all skill levels, A newbie level, intermediate level, and a master level. These projects should reflect common jeep problems and most of all be realistic in price range.
I myself am a newbie to jeeps. My garage is more than likely going to be my driveway. What tools are essential, and which ones are a waste of time. I want that average joe build up that works and the tech article of why it works. A build of a $50000 jeep once in a while is cool as long as it is showcasing some new ideas or technology that that everyday guy might get something from.
A monthly contest of some sort. Necessity is the mother of all inventions, but competition brings out the best in everyone. I like the idea of a fabrication contest or design a better part.
I am awesome at breaking stuff....fixing it is another story!

So,.....Now that I'm building a 80 cj-7 for the wife, how about a few issues on restoreing from the ground up a cj or yj,outside with no garage and basic tools. Using a mild budget(not $20.000)and build it with a 3 to 4inch lift and mild wheeling in mind(keep it 31 to 33" tires ,like most ppl)Street legal, factory drivetrain(not a $5000 grate v8) etc.
96 grand,3.5 Tuff Country,3/4 spacers,rusty's trackbar and mount,dual stabilizers,JCR rock sliders, Dynomax catback etc etc. www.coreoffroad.freeforums.org

Ya know, the one complaint that keeps coming up is a demand for fewer expensive project Jeeps. Funny thing is we've really only built a handfull of these since I have been the editor (January '01). Almost every Jp project is built in our own garages. I'm not sure how much cheaper it can get. What are all the expensive builds you guys are referring to?

You know, I for one want to see more expensive Jeep projects, we need to deck something out in all the most expensive parts we can find, full 4130 roll cage, Dana 80's at each end, blown LS-7, the works.... and then give it to the web guy to drive
----------------------------------------------- So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

Hey I know y'all already did a no lift wrangler on 35's. How about a no lift wrangler on 33's that works on the trail and on the street that looks good. (Without doing the aev highline fender kit.) On another note I know you need the advertisements in the mag for money but if your going to have that many can you add more articles, readers rides or something.

i think you guys do a good job on the mag.i seem that there is an over abundance of bolt this on and bolt that on.I mean, ther should be some more things that the poor man can do.I built my jeep for under 5000 and paid 1200.That kind of thing, not we called novac for this currie for that.I seen the article on the hi pinion 44,that was a lot of dough for that.i did the same thing for a lot less(its a 44 out of a narrow width cherokee)I can also understand some too because you dont wanna show someone how to build there own crossover steering knuckle.Next thing you know, the knuckle breaks at the welds and they say:jp mag showed me how
75 cj5,amc 360,t-18,d-20,d-44 front and rear,4 wheel disc,onboard air,full cage.36inch buckshot mudders,8,000lb winch

That axle swap was done 100% in a driveway. Well, except for the gear install. It don't get cheaper than that. It was a wrecking yard housing. Cut at home, installed at home. Geez, how cheap do you want it?
Companies like Novak and Currie make many of the swaps easier for the average guy. Building your own axle shafts and transfercase adapters isn't often a good idea for most people. If you can cut and build your own safe high-steer arms that's great! Problem is most people don't have the ability to even cut the 1-inch material needed to make the arm or drill the holes properly...just an example. The tools to do it are far more expensive than simply buying the arms.
