I have 97 Cherokee that is throwing out P1698 code "No CCD message from TCM" I have reset the computer with my code reader but the light comes right back on. Also when you put the Jeep in drive it seems like it is starting out in the high gear, if you put it in first and shift it manually transmission works fine. So any suggestions on how I can fix this without have to go to the stealership?

Still have the problem Scott? Chances are the connection on the TCM (Transmission Control Module) need cleaning, or maybe as simple as pushing back on because if the TCM is not grounded or getting power, it will appear "bad". Whatever the reason, the computer is not getting a signal from the TCM, and therefore the computer is not sending shift commands to the trans.
Here's a link to another person with similar problem, but got answers on that forum that will be useful to you:

This code seems to come up with some regularity in Mitsubishi, Chrysler and Dodge vehicles, gas and diesel. Therefore, documenting a solution here for posterity seems worthwhile. Please don't post "But where is the TCM is located?" Read the other forum's Q&A's. Answer is in there, as are other worthy tidbits.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I was just about to go to a tranny shop and see what they could find out. I unplugged the TCM (Now I know where it is) and plugged it back in and seems to be working fine now. Again thank you for the link, I can now drive the ole Cherokee again.
