I don't think its the gear box. I put mine in the air and didn't see any play either. You want notice it, because the tie rod is what connects the tires and when you wiggle them there is no play. I have yet to divise a way to see the play in the track bar. The hole where the track bar mounts to the axle might have been hollowed out.

Yeah, the only way I know to check the track bar is to have someone turn the wheel back and forth while someone else looks under to check play, which I did....did'nt notice any. Also checked the bushing and mount at the frame end. Even put a new bolt with a slightly larger shank to tighten the gap..... seems solid....???  I'm down to 5/32 on my Wild Country tires though..I'm sure new rubber will help a lot.

Yeah I think if you put one tire on the ground and one in the air and move the steering wheel you might be able to see the play

I haven't tried that one yet... thanks for the advice...just how much lateral play should u have on the track bar at the frame mount...I can only see maybe an 1/8" of play at best...I mean its a rubber mount . there has to be a little bit of play there.

I did a BB lift on my TJ this weekend.  Trying to figure out if I notice rear shaft vibration.  Nothing obvious yet.  When people do run into this problem is it slight or obvious?  If I don't feel vibration or not sure if I do, is it still a good idea to put a few washers as spacers to drop the transfer a little?  Will it take stress off anything and reduce wear anyplace?

i have the same problem with a 3.5 inch lift. i took it to 4 wheel parts and they said i needed to replace the tie rod, so you might want to check that out

I had the same prob. with the OME 2.5" lift.  I was running the stock 30 inch tires.  Three weeks ago I put on the 32" BFG MT's and they did an alignment and the problem vanished.  I'm driving an '04 TJ.  I talked to the guys at T&T customs and they recommend an adjustable track bar just to fine tune it after the lift and control arms for the same reason.  It also gives you the option to go bigger if you want and not have to buy more stuff down the road.
