TJ lift problem/Death wobble w/2" lift

After installing a OME 2" lift (suspension enhancement as they claim) on my 2003 TJ I experience the death wobble upon acceleration over washboard type bumps while driving 35 -55 MPH. My alignment shop has inspected suspension/steering components for worn components and has found nothing wrong. OME claims I need at least 6 degrees of caster. Alignment shop set 5.3 degrees best they can get without a caster kit. I have stock 30 X 9.50 X 15 tires. Do you think a caster kit would solve my death wobble problem, or is their other advise you could give.

a caster kit is cheap and more caster is more stable.

I donot belive you have "death wobble" from a 2" lift. I'm not saying you donot have problems it's just ppl are always blameing any little thing to do with the front end on"death wobble" when very few ppl have it. Did you check your tires for balanceing/broken belt? Did you upgrade to a HD steering stabilizer?

Thanks for the advise. Have not upgraded the steering stabilizer...still the stock stabilizer... gonna put OME's stabilizer on for size. Will keep u posted if it helps.....the wobble I get seems pretty severe to me...have to slow to 15- 20 MPH to get back to normal.....drives on the freeway beautifully.....just when accelerating on washboard tybe bumps do I get the wobble.

a heavier stabilizer is just a bandade. better to fix the problem than to mask it.

Yes, I did get an alignment after installing the lift kit.....got 5.1 degress of caster....OME says 6 or more preferrable.....but that means buying adjustable lower control arms.......domino effect..here we go!

domino effect. i know exactly what u r talking about. im about to put a 2in lift on my tj and run 32 11.50 bfg mt. Then a new steering stabilizer. After that im thinking about 4.10 gears or maybe 4.56. then im gonna have to buy a speedo gear since my speedo is already off. Next will probally be a sye kit. After u buy one thing its always sumthing else to buy when u modify somthing. The best thing to do is keep it stock but where would the fun be in that.

you don't need a SYE kit with 2" lift........

I believe ther is a MOPAR kit that lets you have more adjustment without new lower arms.

MOPAR does sell what you need. Camber bolts. Some came with them anyway. My ZJ has them. Every time I got DW with stock steering, I adjusted the camber and it removed the DW or lessened it. Now, with the Terflex HSKT on my ZJ, no DW. even without a swaybar or steering stabilizer.

Not sure if the LCA bolt holes are oblong like they are supposed to be, but the tabs should be on the LCA mounts on the axle.

Thanks for the advise on the Mopar kit. I may just go ahead and upgrade to adjustable lower arms anyway...pretty sure that my problem exists in tha caster...I did install OME's steering stabilizer and it helped quite a bit...no more wobble for now...good thing is while installing the stabilizer I found a torn connecting tie rod boot at the spindle..was hiding behind all the grease.....tie rod seems solid though...just a boot should fix the problem.....pretty sure I still need a little more caster though...that should totally elimiate the DW...need tires too..... BFG M/T I think will be in order.

I put 31's on my Jeep and had death wobble. I put a new steering stabilizer on and it helped a lot, but didn't solve it completely. I noticed my track bar was worn a little and installed a new one. It helped pretty much all the way. I now have a 3" lift with a new drilled hole and it didn't solve it completely. I'm getting an adjustable track bar.

Yeah, I installed a new steering stabilizer as well and it did help a lot...I plan on putting 31's BFG M/T's next month. I'm sure that will amplify the problem, so I'll probably go for a new track bar as well, although I don't see anything wrong with mine now....frame side is tight and to spec....ball jount side could be slightly on the loose side...also thinking I might have some excessive play in the steering gear box that could be contributing to the problem. I've put the rig in the air and checked everything for play....ball joints and tie rods seem tight. Put in on the ground and had someone turn the wheel while I checked the track bar for play and didnt see any. How much play do you think there should be in the gear box when checking?
