I have a stock 79 CJ5 with 258 and 3-speed tranny. No Mods unless you count the goofy foot accellerator pedal that came with it. About 115,000 miles on it.
I also have a 93 Wrangler (Bone Stock) with auto tranny, 4.0-Six, and 86,000 miles.
One has to go. Any advice on witch one to keep. Uses: Sometimes daily driver and occassional weekend dirt mud and a few rocks. Let me know if you have an opinion.

The CJ-5 is morre nestalgic, has less room ,has older parts and has less upgrades available. The 93YJ has fuel injection, has squair head lights, a wimppy rear dana 35 rear axel but has better a suspension and easier to up grade. I have a 57 CJ-5 with spring over lift lockers and Chev engin and trans. I have been toying with the idea of selling and getting a YJ my self.
Tough Decision for you to make. If you like them both the same, flip a coin. The fuel injection gets better milage but the CJ is easier to work on yourself.
Which one needs less work? Mabe that is the way to go.
Good Luck: No mater which one you keep Have Fun in it.

If you're fairlyy good with turning a wrench, here's an idea.
swap the front clip and axles off the '5 onto the Wrangler, then put the Wrangler stuff on the '5 to sell it. I guess you're stuck with the automatic, cause my '76 '5 had the three speed, and I wouldn't wish those road manners on anyone.
You'd end up with basically a CJ-7 with injection.

Flip a coin, its the easiset way to sell one...Or put them both for sale and see what one sells first... Or go with the "which needs less work" idea... I would prolly keep the CJ5 my self, as i am not a fan of the square head lights on the YJs. Besides that, its a nastolgic thing with the CJ...

I'm an average wrencher, but lack the space right now. The CJ5 has rust and the Wrangler is in nice shape, but the CJ5 was my first and hard to let her go. I'm not crazy about the squares, but maybe it's a little crazy to worry about headlight shape. (Off the subject, but I HATE the new corvette lights) Getting rid of the Dana 35 would be a must, but the AMC 20 will need its own attention.
I'm still curious about everyone's idea's. Keep them coming. Thanks!

How much do you like rust? The CJ will have more no matter what. I have an '89 YJ I bought brand new, and the only rust it has is where I backed into stuff in it. (Sadly, none of my body damage is from trail driving...) The YJ has a considerably better frame, and all kinds of parts are available--maybe even more than for the CJ, nowadays. Axle upgrades are all over the place, and the YJ is better on the trail than many people want to admit. To get rid of the CJ, just close your eyes, grit your teeth, and do it! (Easy to say, I know, but I speak from experience...)

all you have to do is swap the grills out and pick up a set of dana 44s out of a FSJ into it
