Need help with any info on engine swap for an 83' CJ7. I replaced the factory 258 6cyl with another 258 6cyl from an 89 Wrangler. Block is tha same, so bolt up was good. Question lies in Transmission. I kept the original trans in the 83 and used the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate from the newer engine. My clutch doesn't want to disengage now because the it seems the throwout barron does not engage the pressure plate enough. It appears that there was already a spacer added to the clutch linkage on the 83 and I wonder if I can just extend the reach with a longer spacer to solve this prob or ismy problem deeper?

Make sure your slave cylinder doesn't have air in it and check that it is working at all. If it is not engaging its a no go on the throwout bearing.
Good luck

There is actually no slave cylinder, it's purely mechanical linkage. I had a friend look at it last night and we will probably drop the transmission and transfer case and put the original pressure plate back on, foolish me, probably should have done that the first time. Thank you for your help and response.

If its maechanical check your adjuster. It looks like a "starwheel" for drum brakes play with that 1st. at least you'll eliminate the easy stuff 1st.
Good luck let us know how it turns out 2

Had to dig real deep and found that the flywheel from the 89 is about 1/4" shollower than that on the 83, so will have to change out the flywheel as well.
