In 1991 I joined the Indiana National Guard. At the time my company  had about 20 of the old military jeeps that were well maintained and had no rust anywhere on them. They were really cool. We wheeled the hell out of them on weekend drills. The best part was that they were paying us to do it! In 1994 & 1995 they upgraded to Hummers. They upgraded everything to improve our combat capability. They rounded up all the old jeeps and destroyed them! They claimed that  the jeeps were not road worthy and it was decided that it was better to destroy them than auction them off to the highest bidder, due to safety concerns  Those  perfectly good jeeps met their untimely deaths because someone was afraid that they might be sued.  For all the Jeep fans around the world, I would like to ask for a moment of silence.

man...  that does suck.  all them mil-spec Jeeps crushed.

I don't know if it's still commonly done, but in '94 or so when I was taking night classes at the local tech center, they had 3 brand new (at the time) GM cars parked out back, with what became known as the 'blue sticker of death' on their windshields.  us poor white trash couldn't understand the economics of taking a car, fresh off the assembly line, with some small defect and throwing that sticker on it saying that it was a donation, and could never be titled or plated.  basically when the school was done with the car it was to be destroyed.  Had I mentioned that one of the vehicles was a Z-71 short box?

Now- I can only assume Jeep, or more accurately- Chrysler, does the same thing.  Seems pretty stupid to me..  everyone else has scratch & dent sales...

some government *** made a law requiring the military to destroy thier old rides. the only good thing I can say about it is the next round of military pickups will be leased not owned, so those should make it back to the hands of us unworth morons who tend to kill ourselves given the slightest oppertunity
