In the next month or two I'm going to begin reassembling my 80 CJ-5. Long story short in high school my buddies and I had a great/bad idea to tear the CJ completely apart and swap in a SB Chevy, well I began college and had no $$ and no time to get it done. That was back in 1993 the poor CJ has sat ever since. The bodies in one place the frame another the poor 'ol 258 found its way to the junkyard and my garage is scattered with old CJ parts everywhere. Its like one gigantic puzzle, lol. Well I think I have finally put enough $$ away at least to get the project rolling. I've since decided to instead go with an AMC 360.

Here's what I'm working with:

Dana 300, T-176 4 speed, AMC model 20 rear and Dana 30 front, all in working order (eventually I plan on swapping in the Dana 44 front/rears off of the Wagoneer)

AMC 360 from donor 74 Wagoneer

Step #1: AMC 360

I have rebuilt SB Chevy's in the past and I've read about cross drilling the crank on the AMC's to better oil the lower end. Any more unforeseen differences that I should be aware of?

I haven't torn down the 360 yet but does any one know of a good online site which I can purchase my rebuild or rekit from once I get to that point?

Thanks any help is much appreciated and if you any comments/suggestions/criticisms at all feel free to post.

Justin

Here's an excellent post I found about the 360 swap.
