My front differential (Dana 30, 1985 Cj& ![]() had water & mud in it from previous owner. It had been there a while. So it has some rust also. Please look at attached pictures. I drained it, oils was thick like grease, no metal chips, no chipped teeth.I have been flushing it out with Kerosene & changes of gear lube. It is better, but the oil still comes out muddy looking (rust coloration I believe). It seems to need rear pinion seal, & probably bearing rebuild kit. I also am thinking of adding the Detroit "True Trac" to this front end. My questions are this:
1. Can I handle the differential rebuild myself, replacing carrier & pinion bearings & seals using your kit? (I've never done one)?
2. How about the Tru Trac upgrade?
3. The teeth are only lightly pitted in a few places, not much rust on the teeth., but I still see brown patches here & there, no heavy pitting , is this a problem?
I plan to be only an occasional of-roader.
I can send a great email picture of this if someone wants to see extent of rust. Thansk!f cannot help me, please forward to someone who might. Thanks!!
