My 1999 Sahara is stalling now and then. This seems to happen most when just driving down the road. The motor just shuts off, then it usually has to sit there for a few minutes before it will restart. It seems fuel related but I really don't know. If someone is with me when it happens I pull the coil wire off to check for spark and it seems to be right there. I have had to crank it a bit at times and have never smelled gas. A mechanic checked the fuel pressure and said it was fine. I have put on new pulgs, wires, cap & rotor and pick up plate in the distributor. I have not seen the check engine light come on at any time.

i have had the exact same problem.

Did your mechanic do the fuel pressure test when it stalled?  If not ... he won't see a problem.

my '97 TJ would run for 30 - 45 minutes, then quit.  If i left it for a bit ... it would run again.

I bought myself a fuel pressure tester and kept it in the jeep.  Sure enough ... next time it quit, i put the tester on and only had 10psi.  Shoulda had 50psi.  As soon as the jeep sat for a bit ... back up to 50psi.

I put a new fuel pump in ... 6 months ago.  it has not quit since.

a couple of things to keep in mind.

1. the test port sit's right above the exhaust/intake manifolds.  These get very hot ... so be careful.  it's hard not to spill a bit of gas getting the tester on.  put a rag under the test port.

2. The fuel pump cost me $500 canadian ... you want to be really really sure it's the problem before you replace it.  this is due mostly to the fact that the filter/regulator are all part of the pump.  I installed it myself.  Dropping the fuel tank was actually pretty easy.

Hope this helps.

Pete

I have that problem too but here is the thing. under 50 mph it wont happen over 55 mph it will and since that is going to,from work it aways happens at same exact spot . that is too consistent for intermittent problem especially as traffic is always different (stop go etc.) Already changed TPS and CPS. so now what????
