Does anyone have any input on Rough Country Lifts for TJ's? I wish JP Magazine would do a comparision of the cheaper lift kits. Thanks.

I just put one on my 99tj before i traded it in for my new jeep. got it for 600 on ebay which is a big savings. The kit worked very well for the short time i had it on and good offroad. It was pretty easy to put on and i consider it a very good quality kit. You made a good point that jeep mags never do a story on them nore can you get them from places like quadratec which is unusual.

I HAVE A 4 INCH ROUGH COUNTRY LIFT ON MY 98 TJ. I don't care for it. I did drop the t case down however I do need to get a new drive shaft yet. i think the angle is what gives me the crappy characteristics. (slight bumpsteer) Yes i did drop the pitman arm too. Peronally i wish i would have went with like a procomp 3 inch lift with just coils and shocks and a 1 inch or 2 body lift. I think handling would be WAY better. I got mine on Ebay too 500 bucks.
But so many times you GET what you PAY for. I wish i would've spent a bit more on a procomp 3 inch and BL too get the desired altitude. Oh well live and learn its a jeep not a caddy right?
Good luck in your choice. JJ

I do not think the lift is to blame at all. You most likely already know that any lift 3" or higher you'll have vibs and front end trouble without extra parts. Did you buy a aftermarket track bar? a new stabilizer as well. A SYE mite be also on the list. PPl need to realize that most lifts donot address alot of these issues. That's why they are cheaper, but it's up to you to buy anything that the kit left out. It's good in a way because you can get what you want and not what comes in the kit.

LOL
Yes it came with all of the above except sye. i just don't like it. i have a friend with an 00 TJ 3inch procomp i had 4 coils 4springs 2 sway bars. nothing else! NO VIBS DUDE! HE DOESN'T HAVE AN SYE EITHER. can you see my disappointment now? the lift is 100% correct and alligned too. the procomp is more $$ so i screwed myself. I know this to be the fact

TeraFlex 2" Suspension Kit, TJ, 1997-04 |
$459.95 |
This basic coil suspension provides added lift to clear up to 32 x 11.50 tires. This kit includes four coil springs (front & rear), four bump stop extensions and one rear track bar bracket kit. All lift kits and suspension systems require a shipping surcharge of $22.99. |
And this one is from black diamond: blackdiamondoffroad.com
 Jeep TJ 3" Lift |
Jeep TJ 3" Suspension Lift · New front / rear lift coil springs have factory spring rate and ride characteristics · New coil springs are fully compressed and stressed (pre-set) when manufactured to minimize settling · Front quick-disconnect anti-sway bar links offer increased offroad suspension articulation and wheel travel - Easy to disconnect and reconnect on the trail with no tools required · Longer polyurethane suspension compression travel-stops prevent component damage · The transfer case is lowered slightly to reduce driveline angles · Rear track bar relocation bracket corrects axle positioning, left-to-right, and improves handling characteristics · Longer rear anti-sway bar links maintain factory bar geometry · Allows the use of up to 33" diameter tires · Your choice of AT or XT shocks · Limited Lifetime Warranty
See no track bars the 3 inch ones come with a rear trackbar relocation bracket. I do agree w/ you I do need a slip yoke eliminator, and when i do get it in I will then make my final judgement on rough country.

You do not need an SYE to run a 3" lift on a TJ. You will probably need a T-case drop though. That lift kind of pulls the rear end out of alignment since it doesn't come with new lower arms. If it does, then you really shouldn't have any vibes, with the t-case drop. With that much lift, you should be doing both.

I emailed the company and they say that a tcase drop comes with the kit so I think i'm good to go.

I got the rough contry kit and have it on a new jeep TJ and have been tracking down issues for a couple of months. I have the death shakes at 40 - 50. I have just about finished all the basic trouble shooting to rule out the tires but stil working on it. There were several issues I did not like with the kit but chaklked it up to my issues since this was the first one I installed. But I did not think the instruction were very clear. If I had to do it over again I would probably try a different one.
I did base this on an articale that I got out of 4-wheeler this some that covered each company with a 1 paragraph about each company.
