I just bought a 1990 Yj and it has a 4" lift with extended sway bar links and a shock procomp 3000 in place of the sterring stabalizer not sure if the pitman arm is dropped but the steering pops and make crazy noises on slight turns and slow turn and bumps. The steering wonders a little but once you get to around 40 MPH its really out of control. I wont drive it any faster than 45 mph...Help please Any suggestion?????????

jack up the front on the axle and yank up and down on the front tires, there shouldn't be much play if there is consider ball joints and tie rods (check these by turning wheel back and forth lock to lock) while you're at it. Also check you're DRAGLINK!!! that could be ready to pop off, if so you and anyone by you is screwed.

Also don't over look your steering box with lifts and oversized tires these tend to die out much quicker (obviously.) Basically what happens to the steering box is that the added stress wears the gears and that can be where and why you feel the wheel going all over because you can keep it in one spot cause that shaft is bouncing around due to the slack. Reman steering Boxes are like $250, don't ask me how i know. LOL  Easy to put in tho.

see if it has a new track bar, a lift over 3" they say you need a aftermarket one.

I read that even a 2" lift you should get the trac bar and new lower control arm bushings.
