JP top ten states the 91-96 YJ 4.0 and the 91-96 YJ four cylinder are great..Does anybody at JP check what they are saying or do they just shoot from the hip. I bet the guys writing the articles drive Honda civics.

OK, so there were no real what you might call a '96 YJ. That dosn't change the fact that over 92,000 YJs were built in '96. It's not like you couldn't buy a YJ in '96, they were still at the dealer.

SO, here is a different question. Is there any YJ's with 96 discription (VIN) plates. Plus when did the first TJ go into production and hit the dealerships. My buddy got a TJ in sept of 96. Why would Chrysler build 92,000 "YJ" models and supply the market with "TJ" models buy @sept.?? educate me oh great one.

Come on--do you truely think that there were no Wranglers at the Jeep dealer for a whole year? YJs were built late into '96. Call 'em '95s call 'em '96s. It doesn't matter to me. It was built in '96. Get over it. As far as vin plates go, I have no idea. Why does it matter?
Now, why wouldwe want to confuse someone who bought thier YJ in '96 into thinking they have some bastard vehicle that is different than the other YJs? And as an added bonus, if someone does have one of these '951/2-'96 YJs they got the Dana 30 front axle with larger 297x U-joints instead of the 260s found on earlier models.

OK, you can find a 93 yj (square headlights) at a dealer now, does that mean it is a 2003?, no. Why would chrysler have two different lines running making two different jeeps (square headlight, leaf springs and round headlights with coil springs? Also , how were 92,000 YJ's(square headlights) made in 1996 when people were able to purchase TJ's(round headlights) as early as april 96? And as for the importance of the VIN# ,my point is, there are probably no vin description showing a build date of 1996. just because there is left over models on a lot does not mean it is a next year model.????
great debate, how about we do some more research on this . lots of people are curious about this. could this actually be a jeep year that does not exist? I will see what I can find out through dealerships and chrysler. I have some comunication with chrysler engineering through the 2003 Camp Jeep .

because they have to run out the old stock of parts, they work them out little by little, and different plants just have more stock than others due to size, location and so on
