I have a 1980 CJ-7 with a 4in lift and 1 3/4 shackels ! It has a problem with staying in the road especially if it has alot of grooves in it (not just dirt but paved roads). I thought about a reverse shackle kit and wanted to know if this is what I needed to do or if anyone else had any other solutions . If I put the reversal kit on will I be able to keep the longer shackles because I need them to clear the 35's

hello, your bump steer problem/ tracking in the rutts of paved and unpaved roads. can be greatly improved by getting your pinion angle back to or close to stock. as you raised your vehicle with the shackles and springs the front of the diff. points down. this removes the self center action in the stock set up.  a stock diff. looks almost leval it does not point at the transfer case.  look up cast and camber in a chiltons for pictures. I had mine so bad I could not go on the highway. the shackle relocation will help alot. pinion angle shims will help, along with a drop pitman arm.

Thats it in a nutshell, Those 1 3/4 shackel have left you with no caster. For the steet I wouldn't use any lift sackel of more than 3/4 inch lift in the front. You'll need one hell of a shim to get your caster back at 1 3/4.
