Ok all, here's the question.  Is it possible to retrofit a half-hard top from a Scrambler onto a YJ Wrangler?  I think that I have thought of what might be needed to do this: possibly change the rollbar to that of a CJ (scrambler rollbar won't fit) or 87-89 wrangler, possibly install one of the CJ-8s cab divider panel - the alternative would be to use a tonneau cover or duster deck cover, but I don't know how this would attach to the half cab/divider panel, I am pretty sure the hard doors will fit flush to the half cab.  Is there anything I am overlooking, or tragic flaws to my logic?

Well I haven't done it, but I know of people that have put a CJ-7 hard top on a YJ.  I know YJ's are dimensionally the same as the CJ's as far as the body tubs go.

That being said, the '8 is simply a stretched '7 tub, and the Scrambler top is designed to go over top the lip of the body as it crosses.  Body wise, I'd say it would be a snap, just drill some new holes.  Yes, the 8's doors are the same as the '7s and YJ's, so if you have full steel doors you're all set.  I imagine even the half doors with canvas top halves would work.

I'd say the factory cage wont work..  also, the '7 cage wont work either.  the hoops of both are too close to the seats.  the '8s roll bar sits further back.  A suggestion would be to use a roll bar from a CJ-5.  they would sit far enough back, because they bolt down to the rear wheel wells.  another suggestion would be maybe to cut the rear down tubes at the main hoop, and maybe run a diaginal to reinforce the cage.  The main hoop should be far enough forward so the top clears, but -as I said- I aint 100% sure.

The divider may be a bit more tricky.  the best scenario is you need to fab the mount plates that run down the inside of the body sides of the CJ-8 tub for the divider to bolt to and drill holes in your floor to bolt the bottom of the divider to..  if the divide has to go further back, the wheel well may get in the way.  Maybe just bolt it to the top, and then rubber seals around the other three edges to seal it to the body.

Some shameless salesmanship, but I'm trying to sell my fiberglass hard top for my 8.  it's going canvas, since the steel doors were stolen.

my 2 cents.
