My son bought his '91 Cherokee lifted last year,and I just bought my stock one about two months ago. I must have over sixty 4WD dealers and manufacturers bookmarked.

Everytime I think I've made my decision on which way to go,I either see something else or talk to someone else.

A couple of facts and recomendations;

  • Stay with a Major manufacturer, Skyjacker, Rubicon, Rockcrawler etc.

  • If your lift contains Control arms, either Upper, Lower or both, notice what type of bushings they use and if they are rebuildable or just replaceable, Rubber(factory type) good ride, Poly(Inexpensive), Johnny Joint(Flexible) $ to replace, or Heim Ends(Real flexible) $ to replace.

  • Make sure the kit is complete, everyone has their opinion of what a complete kit is. There are a lot more components and expense required for a 4.5" lift vs a 3" lift.

  • I think the hardest thing to do is maintain your ride quality. Ask questions of your vendor as to what their spring rates are etc., ones closest to stock while increasing your height are what your looking for. It's easy to give you lift, it's hard to maitain decent spring rates.

  • Shocks are the same way, a lot of the shocks you will see will be the right length for your lift, but their valved for a 3/4 or 1 Ton truck. They'll knock the fillings right out of you teeth. Once again make sure their valved for for a Cherokee.

Hope this helps!
