Hey, you are in luck.  I just went through this process on my XJ.  Actually there are a few.  4 Wheel Drive has a stainless cat back system for about $299 with the muffler.  I installed it, but wanted a little more.  I finally settled with the Flowmaster Hushpower II.  It is stainless and comes in different sizes and quieter that the turbo stainless muffler that came with the kit.  I went with 2.5" for the entire system for optimum flow.  At about 2000 rpm the Hushpower II is somewhat quite.  It has a nice purr and excellent performance charateristics.  I welded it into the exhaust system.  You can even go better using stainless welding rods or stainless MIG weld.

Muffler shops like Mieneke can do most of the work for you relatively cheep.  Somewhere about $50 for the entire installation and welding.

I also went with a high-flow catalytic converter.  I got the cat from E-bay for about $150.  Custom made.  Nice, but I would have done some further work on it with a stainless heat shield.

I am happy with this system.

Look up Flowmastermufflers.com for a demonstration.  You can order directly from the sight.

I too have the flowmaster.  It is a top-quality product and has held up well during my adventures.  It is mellow and the improved flow over stock was quite noticeable.
