I am changing out my transfer case on my 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo its a 249 transfer case. from what I can see it seems to be straight forward and should be a nut and bolt process has anyone done this and so? What specail procedures should I know about?

Its one heavy SOB. So have a buddy or a jack ready when ya take it loose. try leavin the cross member in place till you unbolt it and then unbolt the crossmember from the ZJ and lower them as a set if ya can, will give your jack a better spot to rest on when ya use it to hold it up. I havnt done the one on my 93, but i did the one on my fullsize blazer a couple yrs ago by my self. Gettin it back in is harder then comin out. Good luck. Also, if ya got more questions, tech or not feel free to ask them, especially in the ZJ thread thats on here...

You will need to change the interior floor plate that tells you what gear you are in if it makes a differance to you. There was aan article in one of the 4x4 magazine's a while ago but I can't find it now. It had step by step proceedures and as I recall you are right it is a bolt in excpt that the dash light worked differently.

If you dont have a lift to work in make sure that the Jeep is supported on jack stands. You don't want the thing falling on you.
