I recently bought an 06 Wrangler X and I would like to build it for rock crawling. Nothing too extreme, just something to take on some moderate trails. The problem is that I don't know where to start and I don't have a lot of money to spend on it. I am open for any suggestions, all will be appreciated. Thanks.

I would say the first step is to get rid of that crappy dana 35 rear axle. depending on the size of tires a dana 44 or dana 60 might be what you are looking for. Other than that more info will be needed first.

i would start off with a lift and tires myself. then see how hardcore of wheeling you do. if it is just light duty wheeling, the dana 35 will stay together for a while. mine held up for 40k miles on 35's before i tore up the ring gear, but i don't go hardcore, more finesse driving. everyone is different. do not buy a short arm lift! you will be dissapointed in the future. you can always start with a 4" long arm, and upgrade later to 6" or 8" springs for more clearance and bigger tires. also get a hi-lift and a tow strap. don't think of going wheeling w/o the basics. |
