Love your Cherokee. I don't have pics uploaded yet. I have 01 TJ black Sahara with 3.5 RE and 33 BFG MT's. As much as I love my Wrangler, all around the cherokee is the best. It sucks that Jeep quit making them and went with the mainstream. Well have fun with your jeep ryan

Well I got my truck lifted!!! the lift looks good but I have abit of DEATH WOBBLE! Will a heavy duty ajustable trackbar help? I'll have pic's up ASAP. One thing I found strange is how loud the procomp AT tires are! They hum like a full on mud tire! I donot know why.....maybe they have a harder compound because they have a good wear rep.

Here are some pics of a 69 C-101 I drug home a few months ago. After washing most of the "protective" mud and dirt off of it, I crawled under it to find a pristine frame. It has the optional 225 Dauntless, turbo 400, spicer 20 (I think), and Dana 44 in the rear. Interestingly enough, that rust color you see in the pics is actually primer the owner brushed on to protect its skin... Good thinking on his part.
Next steps will be to ditch the hardtop, chop it down to the bone, and start from scratch. So far, the plan is to fab up a new suspension system and drop in a turbo charged 231 I got from an old grand national. Total cost to date, $0. I figure, once I can get the title search done the hulk will cost me a six pack of beer to the original owner...
Hey, maybe JP would do a write up on it some day. ;-)

a nice find, the Jeepster was the first 4x4 to have an automatic. The 71 I got running again had some cracks in the transfere case holding the propshaft going forward. I believe your right on it being a 20 you may want to ditch that close knuckled Dana27 in the front for an open knuckled 30. I'd probably stop body mods at bigger wheel wells in the back, and keep the hard top around just in case. but its your ride have fun in your way

Thanks for the input. I don't know much about them and have only started to do my research since the offer came up to take it off the owner's hands... His wife wanted it out of the barn so she could kick their RV out of the garage and make room for her new SUV.
I agree, I'm not keen on the 27. I read somewhere than the rear 44 center section is strong, but he tubes are considered week, is this true?
My plan is to turn it into a potential daily driver for a 12 mile commute, but ultimately I want to re-engineer it to be a beast of a trail buggy. I'm guesstamating not going any bigger than 37s. Oh what the heck, since I'm dreaming out in the open... I wouldn't mind building it up to TTC worthiness. ;-) I’d like to make it into a very unique ride, but safe, strong, and very capable. Ultimately, it’s going to be my outlet hobby and since my wife will probably be taking Excursion and leaving me with her KJ as a daily driver, you could say that I’m highly motivated to get this project under way!!!
As far as mods go, I'm thinking ditching the leaf system for a 3 or 4 link front and rear. Some friends of mine are into big stuff and think I should try to squeeze a 203/205 combo in. I'd like to get all of the low end I can muster, but I'm not sure if I will have room for it. One option would be to move the rear axle back to make more room and address the crappy rear decent angle. This thing has lost of room for "junk in the trunk" and that’s not much good for rock crawling.
Oh, yeah, the only reason I was thinking of getting rid of the hard top was because it was going to need a ton of work. I thought I would be better off to just find and buy a replacement. I'll probably stick it in the back yard under a tarp just in case. After I make and install a cage I had planned on just sticking a bikini top on it and leaving it at that.
Of course, I'm always willing to listen to suggestions and/or critisisms...
Thanks

I have a pic of my Grandpa's Jeepster Comando's last hurrah about 5 or 10 posts ago, wasn't too much left of it by then. it had sat for a decade after the creek bridge half broke under it (the top is still under the rebuilt bridge) It lead a hard life before that too. I decided to get it running for HS auto shop, then it sat a few more years before I decided to enter it in my college offroading clubs anual Tuff Truck competition. That photo was front page in the local paper. I haven't realy heard much about the tubes, but if thats right, just truss it. 30/44 axles should be good to 35s, probably 37s with a little work or care. the 203/205 combo might put your rear driveshaft into the CJ range, but CJs survive. If I remember right those springs are uneven, longer tward the middle of the vehicle for a better ride (maybe just the front). so any big lift might require custom leaves. I'd probably lean tward custom perched for pickup leaves. A linked suspension might be whole mess of work. The front fenders are early CJ. I'd probably leave the leading edge of the rear wheel well were it is and expand it rearward. Then slap in some cut down drag tubs (or sections of a 55 gallon drum) for the inside.

Yeah, I saw the pics before posting my original thread. Looks like it served you guys very well!
Thanks for the suggestion on the 30. Depending on what I can find the 30 would probably save me some money.
I figure that if I go with a four link in the rear I was going to move the axle back a bit and just extend the wheel well with it, so thanks for that suggestion, it confirms what I had been thinking of.
Yep, your right about the leaves being uneven. If I end up keeping the leaves I'll probably add some johnny joints and general strengthening throughout. I've read about some guys just sticking with the existing springs and simply reinforcing the perches and frame mounts with decent results on large tires.

Here is my TJ
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/544491
I have been thinking about getting a Pro Rock 60 front end, but the durn Dana 30 keeps holding together with the alloys and ARB... Probably cause I am easy on the throttle and run the auto tranny.
