hey if you have read my other post I GOT MY TRANNY PULLED OUT THIS EVENING!! now i'm wondering since i do have a dana 300 avalible to me if i want it - should i swap it in place of the dana 20 thats currently hanging off my t-18? and if i do is it a direct bolt on and what would be the benefits of doing just that?
would i have change any yokes er anything?
now that my tranny is on my garage floor it would be the time to do it.
again thanks for all the help you people have givin me since i joined this forum! i finally have some people to talk to that likes this stuff as much as i do(even though i'm rather ignorant about much of it)
thanks

its not a direct fit. the t-18 has a "texas" bolt pattern and the dana 300 has a round bolt set up. you need an addapter thats expensive. if you could find a IH scout II,1980 ONLY, it would have a d-300 with the texas pattern. the plus is its got lower low range and its easy to install a twin shifter. the scout 300 is hard to find and anyone who knows what they have knows what its worth.

hey would you believe i just talked to a gentleman today that has several scout II 's of which all are 4x4's one has an automatic there other looks just like my t-18 case is exact and from what i've read it's a true granny low
there is also a scout 800a 70's model--- from what i found on the net its got the 4.27 gears in a 44 rr axle a d27(?) front not real sure bout the trans but i think its a three speed and the transfer is an 18 with 2.43 low gear --- guess everything is geared low for the four cylinder.
i've got a shot at getting these thing for the parts--- what do you think??

i believe the dana 300 is only in the 1980 scout II and there was a strike that year so production was cut short. if you can find a 1980 its what you want BUT you also need the bull gear off the tranny! i can send you the links i found, ill dig info up later today. with out the bull gear the 300 isnt going to work with your t-18.

if you were to find a scout 300 what would it be worth i wonder?
i might be able to get the scouts for cheap! guess it just depends on how much whether er not it is worth it!
if i member right you can't by the bull gear anymore--- it has to be one you found-- is that correct?

i bought a whole 1980 scout II for the t case and the axles for $600.i have been told by a few people that the t case is worth more than that.

where do you live? there are places that may buy whats left of the scouts. if you find a 1980 diesel its worth a few bucks, they only made them for a year also.

i live in olive branch ms., i don't recall if any of the scouts i found had the square lights. i had read about that but forgot and never even paid attention to the lights!but when i go back to work i will drive by and check it out!
what do you think of that scout 800a with the half cad? it has a four cylinder so it should have low geras but i have no idea what kind of axles. i did find that it was a 70's model.
oh and what about the one scout with the automatic-- i know people like the standards for most 4wheelin -- but the idea of an auto in my jeep makes giddy, its not my daily driver but......all these parts what would i have and what could i mix and swap to make my jeep better. i could always sell what i didn't need or give it away to help another jeeper!

i just read some stuff off jeeptech bout the scout t-18 and now i am confused--- its not the same as a jeep t-18?
i can't use it to replace my jeep t-18? but i can use the x-case off the scout on my jeep t-18?
so if i get the scouts the only usable parts i'm getting are the axles(if they are d44's front and rear) and the x-cases (if they are on a t-18)???
possibly the auto depending on what motor is in the scout, not realy wanting to change my 258
man its tuff being ignorant!

no man, just takes alittle leg work so to speak. i have learned alot more in the last year since the i started to rebuild my cj again, from the gound up this time. scout had a t-19 and a dana 20 like you jeep dana 20. in 1980 they had a acout 300 similar to the jeep 300 but had the dana 20 bolt pattern(some call texas patern) and bolts up to you jeep t-18. the scout 300 has a bull gear instead of a spline like a jeep 300. why do you want to replace your jeep t-18? they are tuff and parts are availible. the axles are 44's if it is a 1970's or 80 and you do have to mod them to install., the spring perches are in different places. scouts are saleable on ebay! you may sell the dash and stuff to offset your cost. web serch scout 300 to use a jeep 300 with a jeep t-18 you need a $500 adapter. im running a 258,t-18 6:32-1.and a scout 300 also not all t-18 and t-19 were wide ratio gearing!
