i've got a 258 with a t-18 four speed and when driving down the road,if i'm in fourth and accelerate our i guess put a load on it , it will jump out of gear send my rpms soaring of coarse. i usually try holding or forcing it to stay but that ain't no fun and it ain't fixin nothin! any help????

i'm hoping its a simple fix really don't want to put it in the shop($$$)

I have the T-18 in my Scrambler, and it hasn't given me any trouble so mechanically I can't help ya.  However, you mentioned in another posting you have a body lift on your CJ..  I guess my first thought would be maybe the shifter is hitting the back of the hole in the tunnel.  body lifts tend to cause troubles like that..  Though a one inch doesn't seem like it would cause this.

yeah belive me i was hoping that that was the cause!! i did pull the boot to see and it doesn't appear to be the issue. the only other reason i've been told is the sencronizer(how ever you spell it) could be worn and that would mean the trans would have to be pulled and opened up-ouch!  

Check the mounting bolts where the transmission bolts to the bellhousing.  Also check the bolts that hold the bellhousing to the engine block.  It's something simple to check and could cause the transmission to slip into neutral from high gear but none of the other gears.  

okay guess i'll be checking that soon enough -- i've got to pull the tranny to get to my starter ring gear(that i've got to replace) i just got finished trying to get the DAM thing started so i could put it in the garage to work on it while i'm on vacation this week----- but no such luck i can't get it to start, i move it around to get it clear of the bad spot on the starter just to try it long enough to put it right back in the bad spot. i am tired from pushing it around getting aggrevated on top of that i can't spell!!

seriously i'm getting really down on it -- think i paid too much for it don't think the guy i bought it from was all that honest about the thing and its a guy i know that i thought would if nothing else be honest about it.

meanwhile my wife throws the thing in my face when anything bout money comes up!! can't say *** bout her buying dancing shoes when she don't even dance(thats just an example)
