I noticed a while ago that the carpet on the passenger side of my 1997 Jeep Cherokee was wet, but I didn't think anything of it. Then a few days ago I noticed that it was soaked and I knew this couldn't be good. So I tore up the carpet and have been looking around everywhere for where the water could be leaking in from. I have narrowed it down to somewhere under the hood on the passenger side, right up in the corner of the engine bay, but I still can't figure out exactly where the water is coming in from. Has anyone heard of this happening? If so, what should I do? Thanks.

I have a 99 Cherokee and noticed water sitting on my rubber floor mats
on the passenger side, water would leak in from the cowel but only if it was parked with the rear of the jeep down hill.
Also on my drives side water came in through a hole i made when i ran a wire for fog lights thruogh the rubber plug in the fire wall where the hood release cable runs through it ,
I found that water would run in the rain guides under the hood and drip right on the hood release cabel and in side the jeep. hope that helps.

You didn't say if the water had a smell to it or if it felt kinda sticky. But you also might want to see if your heater core is leaking into the passanger compartment. I have had a couple of older vehicals that had the same problem.

On my XJ and now my TJ I found if the drain tube at the bottom of the vent intake at the base of the windshield is clogged with debris, mud etc... the water will fill the intake and run into the heater fan shroud, spilling onto the floor. Pull the vent cover between the hood and base of the windsheild and see if you have collected enough stuff yet.

Likely the condensation from your a/c unit isn't draining on to the ground. The little rubber nipple is probably stopped up and the plenum is full of water. Often, it will fill up and dribble into the interior.
