Because I like to stick with what I know works, the time is coming to upgrade the axels under my Jeep. From spending years beating the living crap out of cars a 1/4 mile at a time, the Chrysler 8-3/4 front loader will be what I will swap in to the rear of my YJ. They are a little lighter than Fords 9 inch, but from time spent with them, every bit as strong. This was the standard unit Mopar used in the 440-6pack cars, fullsize "C" body, and light trucks. That too, the housing from Mopars "A" body, ( Duster,Dart,and so on) are only about an inch differant , hub to hub, than the Dana in it now. The question I have is, has any one out there, or know anyone that has turned one of these upsidedown to use as a front axel? Looking for info on this swap before I go with the 44 for the front. As I said, these are supper strong units, and being a front loader, much easier to change gearing than a Dana, and I know where I can put my hands on a few of these housings, and center chunks. I guess pinion oiling could end up being the biggest problem I would have to over come. Any info would be great, even if you are running a Ford 9 inch in the front, speak up, pros & cons of oiling. Thank ya much. Why be normal?

being a diehard mopar man myslef i love this idea. never heard of it done before, but I've currie can take a for 9" offset the diff and put it on the front i'd imagine it can be done. it's a big custom job. the tubes would have to be cut and resized and custom shafts would be made. the only thing you're going to want to find out is the rotation direction of the front drive shaft, it seems like it would make a difference when rotating the pinion against the ring gear. I'll look and mock something up with a set of carriers i have to see how it might work If I were a machine, I'd be a lot happier.
