Cheap fix for white/grey fender flares that were once black!!! For some time I have been trying all kinds of products to get the flares to stay black with most products only working for a day or two before turning back to the white/grey look.  (back to black, armor all, Mcguires, turtle wax....etc)  Then when walking down the isles at Wal-Mart I saw the answer I was looking for. Black spray paint designed for plastics. I was very skepticalat first wondering if it would crack and chip once the paint dried since the flares are flexable and paint generally isn't.  To my amazement it worked and the black flares make my jeep look new again! (Aside from the scratches, mud and other scrapes and dings from offroading) It was the easiest fix I have ever done only needing the can of paint and some old newspapers.  After pushing the paper behind the flares and making sure I had everything else covered up around the flares. I just sprayed the flares with a couple coats and let it dry. Looks great and was cheap and easy. ps. I used Krylon's black plastic paint.

Yeah, the flares bug me ... but after 230,000 k's I've got other issues.

In my '97 TJ I've had the trans rebuilt, put a motor from a '99 in myself, replaced the fuel pump myself (which actually  cost me more than the engine when all was said and done ... thanks to ebay and leftover parts, and the bloody price of a fuel pump from Chrysler).

I've got small leaks at both diff's ... finally figured out that sloppy u-joints don't help the seals.

When i put the engine in, I cleaned up the front fenders/grill.  When I put the fuel pump in I sprayed everything twice with rust inhibitor (trust me ... in Canada we have the good stuff).

I have a few small problem parts ... and the flares have to come off, but I have a sick T-case that will need attention long before I worry about flares.

Sorry for the rant, but I've got to gather the $$$ and find the time to fix the necessaries before winter.

I did a complete front brake job and replaced rear drive shaft u-joints in the snow last winter ... not fun.
