So i found a 96ZJ that has been wrecked. It has the 5.2V8  with 140,000-150,000 miles on it. They are askin for about $1200 for the whole ZJ.  It has been rolled (looks like it any way) and is missin some front end parts. (headlights, blinkers, bumper, clearance lights, header panel, grill and fenders) doors look a bit smashed. They claim that the motor does still run, and transfer case and tranny are still all good. I was thinkin of offerin them like $1000 for the whole thing if it has a title. If i were to get it, i was thinkin it would be nice to be able to swap in the 5.2 into my ZJ. How hard would this swap be?? i have the 4.0 in mine as of now. I was thinkin just like the motor its self to swap, the computer and then the motor mounts also would be swapped. Then i was thinkin of removing all the glass and doors off the wrecked ZJ and puttin my 4.0 into that one and makin it a total off road Jeep... Whats your thoughts on this? think its worth the effort to swap motors and trannys, transfer cases over? or would my motor bolt to the 5.2??

I also found a couple of XJs for $800 and $750. The $800 one has a 4.0 and they say it runs good. Just overheats and needs a water pump. The $750 needs tires, unsure on motor, and miles. Needs some steering work on it also. Unsure of the miles on either one. but do these seem like good deals for the price?? they are of the 89-90 area era XJs

I wouldn't pay 1200. I mean really all your getting is the motor and a few other things. Maybe 500 for the whole thing.I like the 4.0 and would just keep that if it were me. For 1000 you can have a shop rebuild it, with a performance cam etc. If it has the limited interrior I'd look into that.

well i have my old trackbar and bracket off. now the trouble is the rusty's bracket dosen't fit! I had to drill a big hole in it to clear a bolt that sticks out(factory bracket is made to clear this) now the two bottom holes donot line up very well. I am not impressed! I'm sure we'll get it on today but you shouldn't have to do all this extra work. A place like rusty's should have done a better job on this. The kevin's is a modified factory bracket had I known the rusty's was such a pain I'd have gone with the Kevin's one. I think the rusty's one is stronger though if I can get the damm thing on LOL

Hmmmm that could make it a challenge for me also. I have looked at mine and its a tight fit to get off one of the nuts next to the coils...But it seems that once the nut is loose, ill be able to pound out the bolts and so forth. If i had a mig welder, i would prolly just weld the braket onto the frame...But maybe mine will fit better then yours...I think the test ZJ they have is a 94...So maybe some thing is a lil differnt between the 93-95 and 96-98 ZJs?? what motor do you have also? I got the 4.0 in mine so maybe that makes a differance also. But still you would think that it would bolt right up...Just makes me wonder if mine will be as bad as yours...

take your tape measure out and see how far the top of the wheel well is to the ground and then find another and see if its at all differnt, or find another grand and park next to it. If your sittin 1" taller then you have the up country. OR ya could just buy the upcountry shocks and be on the safe side...Also make sure you dont have a case like mine...My coils were so sagged out that even with my spacer of 1 3/4" and 31's i was only sittin about an inch higher then all other grands...Also, for the price of some shocks, you can buy a budget boost lift kit for the same price and some have shocks with them in the kit. Just some stuff to think about. If ya have over 200,000 miles on it, or are gettin close, i would look at upgrading to new coils, especially if ya have the V8... Seems they tend to sag really really really good after the 200 mark, as mine did

I think that zj of your was build more for style, kinda like the Limitied. I'd say it was not the up country. I'd go and check at the dealer they should be able to tell you.

Well I got it on. What you need to do is drill a hole to clear that bolt, then just use c clamps to bring the bracket in to line up the two bottom bolts. I also took off the wheel to get in better at the side bolts. Just donot let the bolts on the side fall in or you'll never get them out from behind the streering box. I just put the nuts back on them to hold until I was ready to install the new bracket. I hope this makes sense.... It will when you are under your truck LOL.

So I have the new trackbar and bracket and rusty's 2nd steering stabilizer on and MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! All the work was worth it.

All I have left to do is buy a AEM dryflow filter and install that to rusty's air tube, and install the front tow hooks. Then it will be time to hit the trail!!! Finnally!!!

Now to save up for a 1" spacer, upper control arms,t case drop, new wheels and 32x11.5 mud terrians ,4.10 gears, rear loc right.....LOL money money  moneyyy!!
