I got a Front D44 out of a 1984 Jeep Wagoneer for $100. Now, i wonder how am i supposed to convert those knuckles with 5 on 5 bolt pattern to keep my 5 on 4.5 wheels? What do you recommend to do since i would like to keep my M/T wheels i already have on my D30.
I am not planning on spending all my paycheck on buying special crommoly-whatever-space parts to do this conversion so junkyards are my target.
Please, any advise will be very helpfull.
Thanks.

Your '84 Waggy (as in FSJ) 44 should have a six lug pattern not 5-on-51/2 lug pattern. It don't really matter either way. You can't use any of those outer parts on that axle anyway. You can make it 5-on-41/2 to match your wheels but you'll be using weaker, less desireable components. Go grab the knuckles and complete outers from a '74-'84 Dodge 4x4 1/2-ton Dana 44 with unit bearings. You'll need the stub axles, brakes and all. Slap some new ball joints in the Dodge knuckles and put them on your Waggy 44 housing with the rest of the Dodge outters. I do not recomend this set up but it's a cheap way to do what you want.

that's retarded, just buy wheels. you're gonna be into junkyard parts more than a set of black rock crawlers anyway. if you're gonna upgrade axles, 5 x 4.5 are not the wheels to buy.
i assume this is a yj /tj/xj, or something with a d35 rear. that's what needs to be upgraded. the 30 front is a pretty good axle.
if the jeep is actually gonna get 'wheeled, the rear is gonna have to be upgraded too. same problem with the wheels.
jorge, if you don't want to spend your whole paycheck it means you're probably not going to narrow the 44 to match the rear anyway. you may as well get a rear end with the same gear ratio, lug pattern, and width as the front and buy new wheels. i don't know if the '84 is 6 or 5 lug but i would think 6 even though you said 5 on 5 (which would actually be 5 on 5.5) either way there are a bunch of rears available at junkyards to match up with the front that are cheap. chevy and toyota have 6. older jeep, 1/2 ton ford, and scout are 5 on 5.5. i like the semi floating d60 and d44 for chevy 6 lug pattern and d44 and ford 9" for 5 on 5.5.
you're opening a big, expensive can of worms that maybe should remain closed. the only way i would use the dodge outers on the wag'44 is if you already have a jeep 44 rear that your wheels fit.
