How big of a tire are you running now? Per Ma Mopar, they don't feel that the Dana 35 will handle any more than a 33" tire. Thats on an open diff. If you install a locker, you're going to stress the hell out of it. Also if you have changed to a lower gear, you're just beating it with a bigger hammer! Personally, I think it has more to do with what day of the week the axle was built. I know of people that have run 35's on a locked 35, and never had a problem, (maybe built in the middle of the week), and then this this guy I work with that blew his open diff 35 just about in to orbit with the stock 27" tires, (built on a Monday, or Friday, or worst Saturday on overtime, LOL.) I think it also has alot to do with how you drive it, how heavy is your right foot? Another thing to think about, do you drive it every day, do you get much in the way of snow? If so, that'll mess up your underwear, the frist time it wants to swap ends on you at 60mph. Chances are if you lock it, you'll break it, its just a matter of when, mines alive and well at 110,000 miles, but I have been running it open for about the last 30K. You'll never get the sound of your axle snapping out of your head once you hear it. Well thats about a dollars worth of my 2 cents.

i have a powertrax locker
Dana 35; 4.0L; 3.07 gears and 33" tires (yes the gears suck, i am working on that)
to be honest i hate having a locker when i am on the road, right now i don't have to drive my jeep everyday, and probably 50% of my driving is trail/back roads - i always feel like somethings ready to shred but so far so good
equally, i love having the locker when i am off road
my advice, which i hope to take when i get the loot, is to spend the extra money and look at a selectable locker
my $.02

Mud33: Thanks for the infor. I'm thinking of waiting and instead get a winch, run open until I can afford either e-locker or ARB with superior 35 upgrade and maybe rear truss to beef the 35 or swap to 44. Dreams?
