I have a 83 CJ-7 with 4" of suspension 2" of body and 1.25 shackles.Would it be possible to bolt a set of full size axle to my system by changing out u-bolts and beefing up the steering changing out drive shafts? Or do I have to do a spring over like all the rigs that have full size axle that I,ve seen.Any pointers would help.Tryin Rock crawl on a budget.

I don't know why you would have to do an soa to install full-size axles. I can't think of anything that would really get in the way, since you already have 6 inches of lift.

You can do a full size axle swap with out doing a SOA as long as the spring perch on the diff. housing side is not made into the housing on the top of the axle. I am only familiar with the Chevy axles and you almost have to do a SOA with them because of this design. I suppose you could still do a spring under with Chevy axles but you would have to move you spring mounts outside the frame (a lot of work and fabrication is involved). Then you run the chance of tire rub on the springs unless you have a lot of offset on your wheels.
Hope this helps with your question, CJ

if your on a budget, look for some jeep axles. widetrac dana 44 etc.check the bone yard. go online and print an axle identification chart for the dana 44 family. do not play with the spring over! there is no need. it will cost alot of money to do it correctly. I was able to find a wide trac 44rear on a junk jeep they tossed from the local airport. a tip the a jeep will have 44 when searching the yards-odd factory trailer hitch(pintle or heavy duty regular) or a factory pto. also check out the cherekee/ wagoneer vehicles for a wider larger axle. keep it simple. spring under acts like a natural skid plate once you trip the u-bolts.. keep in mind a dana 30 front can be upgaded easily w/ superior brand axle parts.
