Hello
I've got a 1978 CJ-7 with a 85 305, in the near future I'd like to swap my dana 44 to a wider, more durable axle. I've been told that a dana 60 would do the trick. Now I've got 5 feet from one side of the tub to the other, toss on some six inch fender flairs, would it be possible to slap on some chevy axles. Also I'd like to exchange my 3 speed T 150 to a 5 speed, but keep my transfer case. Any ideas

that 44 is not stock and its pretty tough unless you want to run something bigger than 36s the chevy axles could be made to work being wider does pose one problem though getting it to steer properly will be a real noggin scratcher as for the 5speed the only one i can think of is the nv4500 it came in dodge 3500 trucks with the cummins turbo diesel and the ford f350 but the only adapters that are avalible are for the dodge it will be a very expensive swap on the other hand a t176 4 speed is a bolt in and it has a killer 6 to 1 first gear where the t150 has a crapy 3to1 first gear and if my guess is right u have a dana 20 t-case with a realy crapy 2to1 low range (i have the same setup in my 77 cj5) you may also want to look into geting a 300 t-case if you need anymore info just ask

if you go full width, go to a 31 spline ford 9". i don't think the 30 spline , heavy, diff dragging, full floating POS 60 you're gonna find is any better than your 30 spline 44. the 35 spline d60 is rare. if you're thinking corp. 14 bolt, i hope you're running huge tires because the weight and ground clearance you give up isn't worth it.
