Jolt While Driving

I have an 94 GrandCherokee Ltd, 5.2L 8Cyl. 150Kmiles. Recently while driving, I have felt a sharp jolt that seems to be coming from the front passenger side, like hitting a small but deep pothole. Only problem, its not potholes. The CV boot is shredded on that side. So I am going to replace it. Depending on how long the boot has been trashed, what other damage might have been done that would cause this? It seems to happen most often as I accelerate after making a turn. Thanks for any ideas.

P.S. is the CV joint the same as the steering knuckle?

The knuckle is th ecast iron part that the hub fastens to. It is connected to the axke via ball joints.
If I read this correctly, the CV joint you speak of is inside that knuckle, and is shot. Just the rubber boot tearing would not give you the jolt you described. The torque needd to shred the boot is so insignifcant you would never have felt it. I'd say the boot has been damaged for some time, you joint has been contaminated, and is now destroyed.
If this is the case - park the thing until it is fixed. At the very least, it could "let go" and take other parts with it, on the other side of the coin, it is unsafe to drive. The joint binding to the point of shocking the chassis? You are in a bad place, my freind. Please get it fixed right away.

definitely replace tha joint i had a 85 s15 jimmy that put me in the ditch 1 night although the jimmy has full cv axles and your jeep has a solid axle with cv joints in the place of good ol' greaseable u-joints i think the same principles apply with the jeep also check the bearings they usualy bite the dust when an axle gets that bad but whatever you do dont drive it unless its straight to the repair shop and keep it under 35 mph be extra carful when you turn i hope i have helped you
