I've built a pretty stout 1982 cj-7. It has a four link rear and three link front suspension. It also has full hydraulic steering. Ive cut the front section of the frame for better approach angles. The front axle has been moved up about 3 inches from stock. I would like to reinstall a steering gear box with hydo assist but my problem is that the gear box would have to be moved back about 3-4 inches from the stock location because of the section i cut off of the frame and my axle is move forward. what i came up with is to use a late 80's - early 90's f150 gear box because the pitman arm is pointed toward the the front of vehical and not towards the rear. This would clear the axle. Does any one know where on the ford gear box do I drill and tap the hole to make it hydro assist? or does anyone know what other type of gear box to use? I would like to know how to drill and tap other gear goxes also? Thanks Mario.
