I own a 1981 cj-5. the original motor in it when i got the jeep was a gm 4 cyl. i swapped that motor out for a 258ci straight 6. i am utilizing an sr4 tranny. i have gotten the tranny and motor mounted but i have seemed to have lost two inches off of the front driveshaft. i don't believe that i should have lost that much space. the motor mounts are int the same palce as on my fathers 258 cj5. where have i gone wrong and what would be some possible fixes for this. Please help.

the reason that the drive shaft would come up short is for the fact that the engine is 2 cylinders longer therefore you are moving the entire drivetrain back on the jeep....the reason that your fathers works is because of the fact that his driveshafts are probably a different lenth then yours...i bet that your rear driveshaft is not the right lenth either(it might fit in there semingly right but it is probably longer then it should be...as much longer as your front is shorter)...what you are going to have to do to fix this is to get your driveshafts shortend/lenthend...or find an old cj that originaly had the 258 and get the driveshafts out of that one because they should be the right lenth.
