I have a '90 Cherokee XJ with the 4.0L I6. I have several questions, so I will get to the point.
A. My Jeep has the dash panel with the large speedo and Gas Guage, but no other guages. I want to put a tachometer in the thing, but I do not want the expense or the ugly pod thing on my dash , as with an aftermarket tach. Is it possible, since the guage clusters are all in one unit and plug into this big panel behind it, to replace my guage cluster with one with a tach?
B. I want to lift the Jeep 3", but all of the suspension is shot. Would it just be cheaper to replace the leafs with coilovers, instead of replacing the leafs before the lift?
C. What would be your reccomendation with the engine, which has 165,000 miles on it. I know you run stories of people salvaging Jeeps with a few hundred thousand more miles on it, butthis is one tired Jeep. She doesn't Idle cleanly, has bad motor and tranny mounts, and, the clutch is slowly dying. Should I rebuild the motor, replace the mounts and clutch, and just leave it at that? Or, Should I Just ditch the whole thing and go V8?
D. What the hell is the command trac transfer case? How does the drivetrain hold up to abuse on theis jeep. it was not on your top 13 worst, or your top 10 best, as in last month.
All of these problems I need answered ASAP, as I want to start this Jeep on the right foot. I thank any and all responses I get.
Thanks

As for your first question on the tach, you should be able to pull it of with minimal rewiring.
As for the engine, in my opinion a v8 swap is the best option because, 1. a rebuilt 4.0 is still pretty weak 2.a v8 swap is cheaper then a rebuid in many cases 3. a v8 is alot easier to work on then an I6
As for the other ?s i'm sorry but i can't help you on those because I don't know the specs on your transfer case and as for the suspention, new leafs should come with any lift kit unless you plan on making the lift yourself.
Hope i was atleast alittle help. Good luck on your project.
